Torrefied pellets

Torrefied pellets or Biochar pellets - black pellets.

Distinctive features of biochar pellets in comparison with wooden pellets:

1. More heat energy is produced at burning: Wood chips – 2,03-3,14 kWt/h, white wood pellet – 4.75-5.06 kWt/h, biochar pellet – 5.92-6.22 kWt/h;

2. Higher calorific value: Wood chips – 1766-2721 kcal/kg, white wood pellet – 4058 – 4297 kcal/kg, biochar pellet – 5014 – 5252 kcal/kg;

3. Almost complete absence of moist: Wood chips – 29 – 49%, white wood pellet – less 9,9%, biochar pellet – less 0,9%;

4. Higher density: Wood chips – 249 – 401 kg/м³, white wood pellet – 649 kg/м³, biochar pellet – 901 kg/м³,

5. High energy density: Wood chips – 814 kWt /м³, white wood pellet – 3151 kWt /м³, biochar pellet – 5084 kWt /м³

Also, one of the main advantages of biochar pellets is their water absorbing capacity. When being kept in a very humid environment, unprocessed pellets usually decompose. Alternatively, biochar pellets are not subject to decomposition. They can be stored for a long period of time without losing its useful properties.
